Quarter Pounder Cheese Burger

A lot of us love a good beef burger, and one of our favourites is the Quarter pounder with Cheese. But, they are a little bit off limits, unless you are desperate for one and happy to take the hit! Read on to find put how we made them...

Ingredients (to feed 6 adults, probably a couple more!):

900g Extra Lean minced beef
1 Green Pepper, finely chopped
3 onions finely chopped
4 garlic cloves finely chopped
135g Grated Mozzarella Cheese
Tomato Passata
1 egg
Salt & Pepper

Method:

1. Add mince, pepper, onion & garlic to bowl. 2. Mix well with your hand, 3. Make required burger sizes and make well for cheese to go in!

  1. Add all the ingredients, except the cheese, to a large mixing bowl, add salt & pepper and then mix
well to ensure all the onion, garlic and pepper are well mixed in.
  2. Add a little tomato passata at a time to give a slightly moister consistency. It also adds tomato flavour (better than ketchup!). I used about 5 tablespoons, but it may vary.
  3. Add one egg and continue to mix well with your hands until everything holds nicely together.
  4. Make up the required burger sizes by pulling a chunk of the mixture and rolling to a ball. Lay them on a flat chopping board or tray.
  5. With your thumbs, make a hole in the middle of each and add a little grated cheese.
  6. Carefully bring up the sides of the burger meat to cover the cheese, pinching it all closed so you have a reasonable seal.
  7. Leave to rest on the tray until needed!
  8. Heat a BBQ or frying pan to a good high heat. Use fry light as required on BBQ & pan so they won't stick.
  9. Reduce the heat and add the burgers, you want to seal the bottom but cook slowly to stop the cheese running!
  10. When the bottoms of the burgers are nicely done, flip and do the top side, taking care not to break them otherwise the cheese will just run out.
  11. When finished, juices should be running clear.
  12. Serve with your choice of accompaniment, we made a nice fresh salad and home made coleslaw!

Home made coleslaw. Just shred carrot and white cabbage them mix in fat free natural yoghurt. You can also add onion as well if you wish!

Also try a mix of different herbs and spices to see which different flavour effects you get. Chillis are an excellent ingredient if you like spicy burgers!
